I've recently started working on a project again after several months away. My first novel was nearly finished when I realized that I had done something seriously wrong with it. Now after getting some emotional distance I am rewriting the whole thing (ugh) from scratch.
It's hard to write on lack of sleep. We have a toddler who wakes up screaming at 4am every morning and needs to hold my hand in order to fall back asleep. Then he won't let go of my hand without waking up. The upshot of this is that I can't possibly sleep and I wake up too groggy to write or do much of anything else.
Fortunately there is a solution. COFFEE. I have upped my caffeine intake and now I feel like I could do just about anything!!!!!
Except sleep.
Rock On...
Being a compendium of things I say late at night when I probably should be sleeping instead.

Why Read This?
Most of the time, our lives aren't very exciting. The kids need to be fed and bathed, and you have to stop the big ones from hurting the little ones. Your boss is impossible to keep happy. Traffic is annoying. You're in a relationship with someone who used to be really interested in you, way back when.
Writers write for many different reasons -- maybe they have a literary point, they want to make money selling books, or they just like to see their name on the cover. Who knows why they write. But the great majority of readers want to be entertained. We want to immerse ourselves in a world that's mysterious, fun and interesting. Where people overcome impossible obstacles through great effort or sheer dumb luck. Where someone like us is having great sex. Where something just happened that makes us laugh out loud.
I'm working on a novel because I want to be entertained. I'm having a lot of fun doing it, and it keeps me up at night turning over the possibilities in my head. I want to create something that I will enjoy re-reading, years from now when I've forgotten what it says. Most important, I want my readers to get engrossed and wonder what on earth will happen next.
It's coming soon. I hope you'll love it. And I hope I can get some sleep after it's published.
